Easter Tarago river report
Hi all. Easter trip with FAM at Glen cromie caravan park. First few evenings as getting dark fished the one hole in the park which was surprisingly close to swimmers. Managed 3 blackfish and very small browny. Sunday evening went to Fisher rd in robinhood and stuffed around getting more small blackfish and very tiny trout in a couple of holes either side of swimming hole. Then as it was getting dark threw float with worms into the swimmers hole and blacks and trout started hitting every cast. Worked out where trout were and managed 3 brown trout 35cm. Could of kept going but I think bah limit is 3 so went back to camp. Not bad trip with time for fishing on side.

Well done
Good to hear there is small fish in the system and I’m surprised you managed 3 keepers that’s good.
Cheers

You did well! Next time try down Stocks Rd and go upstream from there. I got busted off years ago by a huge trout I hooked on a Craigs Nighttime fly after dark. There are big ones there but they are nocturnal. Using worms you'll mainly get blackfish. Crickets are the go.

Re: Easter Tarago river report
Good to know that there are quite a few Blackfish still in the Tarago. When I lived in Bunyip while in high school we managed some big Blackfish in the Bunyip/Tarago system. What would the average size have been?

The blackfish were small 20 cm. The trout were the bigger size. Going to go back next week but try the noojee river systems for trout

Re: Easter Tarago river report
Trout are pretty aggressive fish and small fish are easier to fool. Would be worth trying some celtas or hardbodies such as rapalas.
The upper Latrobe river and Toorongo both hold trout.
Tarago reservoir has big trout also lures such as Tassie devils or rapalas would work unfortunately I don’t believe it’s legal to fish there.

Hasn't been legal to fish the reservoir for 40 years.rb85 wrote:Trout are pretty aggressive fish and small fish are easier to fool. Would be worth trying some celtas or hardbodies such as rapalas.
