Lakes entrance run 28/7

Post by Hosery » Sun Aug 05, 2018 10:53 pm

Well with a few people on here getting cabin fever at the lack of trip reports. I'll do my bit and post a report.
Headed off lakes for a quick pinkie run. Was met with glassed out conditions and sunshine so couldn't complain for a winters day.
Headed to where I was on them the last time I went out. About 3 weeks prior but no pinkies. Plenty of activity and managed a number of half decent leatherjacket before the little ones moved in thick.
Tried a number of marks for not much before 1 last spot. First drop a pinkie. So that will do. Fished if for a couple of hours for a few pinkies and mowies plus numerous other rubbish. Let go a few that were just size and a little over. But I'm not real fond of letting snapper go as they don't realease very well out of deeper water.

All in all a nice day on the water and the winter pinkies are still about as always.

Cheers fellas. Yeah I love eating jackets. Only just started filleting them recently. Gee no idea why I've been doing them whole all this time so much better. Much prefer them over snapper. Very over rated IMO.

Good to see some fish still about. I will be giving it a go soon as the weather lets me.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Looks like the reefs are firing, for my future reference, what type and size hooks are you using? I generally use 3/0 circles but I think it will be a struggle to hook jackets with these.
Cheers
