Salmon & Poppers

Post by Whiskers » Wed Oct 17, 2018 7:26 pm

After a couple of weeks of miserable easterly winds the wind finally veered around to a gentle nor' westerly today.

Headed off to a local surf beach near Marlo to get my feet wet in the surf. What little swell there was still had an east to west set.

The fishing was a bit quiet but small schools of salmon would spasmodically come through.

I finished the day with a total of twelve fish and interestingly all bar two were caught on a blue surf popper. Bait was largely ignored. I was fishing a normal paternoster rig with the popper on the top dropper.

There was no size to the fish, most being in the twenty to twenty five cm mark, only one made it to thirty cm.

All in all a good day out.

Nice bag of sambos mate.
Can’t beat those surf poppers when Fishing with bait. Many times the same thing has happened to me. The bait has gone but sure enough the popper gets the fish
