Crayfish around Gippsland area (Stratford)

Post by ooramirez » Sun Dec 30, 2018 12:25 am

Hey legends. I am expending next week around the Gippsland Area (Stratfod). I would like to drop some hop nets and traps for crayfish. The Avon River seems too shallow and I cannot find any report on crays. My other option is the Wellington Lake, but again there is not much info about whether there are crays there. Any advice? I am targeting Red clays and Gippsland spinies. It seems like the Reddies are not common on that area.

Wellington is brackish water to my knowledge, so you won't get them in there. Not sure about Avon.. I'm thinking the McAlister is your best bet

Yep. I want to fish one of those. Two ideally. For a crayfish and chilli pasta.
