Lake tyers/lakes entrance area

Post by wem21 » Thu Apr 18, 2019 11:04 pm

Hi guys,
I'm heading off to lake tyres and the lakes entrance area (paynesville, metung ect.) for Easter, and wil be with a few fishing friends. Gonna be land based, using both bait and lures, can anyone give some pointers on where to fish and what tactics to use?
Looking to catch anything that's good on the table
Cheers

A few good catches of salmon from the beaches at the moment. There was plenty of whiting around metung a few weeks ago. I am finding it hard to get good bream here in Paynesville as there is lots of undersize fish around. There are lots of boats on the water which may make it difficult to fish land based in some spots so I would either try the surf or maybe one of the rivers.

Id be stopping in at the Mcleod st bait shop in Bairnsdale, should be able to help with some quality bait and tips.

If you have no luck the Prawns and Bugs direct from the fishing boats on the esplanade in Lakes are a winner! I had no trouble disposing of a Kg of bugs on tuesday night!

Good luck

Can confirm the bream are hard work in Paynesville at the moment. A mate got some whiting off a jetty from Raymond island earlier this week and 4 good size flatty off the bank at newlands arm between 7-9am on Wednesday. Lots of boats and tourists starting to turn up for Easter.

Don't have any updated news about tyres sorry. Probably plenty of tailor about though, can be caught on small metals which cast easy from the shore. Worth a crack on the flatties in the shallows in the afternoon sun. 2.5" curl tail grub in motoroil is a good Place to start.
