Inverloch Jetty- 05/05/2019

Post by StarrangerAU » Mon May 06, 2019 9:42 am

Spotted a gap in the weather on Sunday morning so decided to make haste to Inverloch Jetty for sun-up and the turn of the bottom of the tide at 6am.

Armed with Pillies, Pippies, and a small amount of squid, I pretty quick found that the pippies were flavour of the morning. Squid barely got touched ( which wasn't too surprising tbh), and the pillies were inconsistent. All up, landed quite a few juvenile Flathead, Trevellay, Salmon and Sweep (Butter Bream?), and rounded out the day with just a single keeper being a 40cm salmon.

Most fun during the morning were the two small flat head that came up body-less thanks to a 'Couta that was following my catches and taking advantage of the situation. So I had 6inch Halco pilchard hardbody lure in the kit bag which was promptly rigged up and put to work.... and easy as...bang! on jumps a 50+cm 'Couta. Personally, I despise the fish and their horrible smell, so using the pliers to stay away from his formidable looking choppers returned him to the water. Tried flicking again for another 10mins and nothing.... I guess he (and his buddies) moved on elsewhere.

At around 10am the tide picked up a whole lot of speed and started pushing through vast quantities of weed, it became quickly apparent that the mornings session was over. It was fun whilst it lasted though, not perfect weather, but better than doing chores at home.

Nice morning Starranger.

Fun was had, a range of adventure, a fish for home, a tussle with some Coota Bullies and variety.

Best part was knowing when to call it quits. The never ending "just one more cast" sometimes takes a great session and turns it into a long killjoy mood. Finish on a high is always the best.

Cheers, Bugatti
