Eels and Oxtail Soup
Just a heads up to anyone thinking about coming to fish Marlo or the Snowy Estuary this long weekend. The whole system is very murky at the moment, specially after the 50mm of rain we had early this week. The water is about the same colour as oxtail soup. The fishing is very quiet.
The only fish I found biting today were eels. Big eels. Landed a dozen today and got bitten off my as many again. Most of them were in the metre to metre and a half size.

Nice of you Whiskers to give a heads up on the murkyness, save a few member's trips or even, redirect a trip.Whiskers wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:29 pmJust a heads up to anyone thinking about coming to fish Marlo or the Snowy Estuary this long weekend. Eels that big would of been a surprise. Did you keep any? I hear they are good munchies.
Cheers, Bug

Re: Eels and Oxtail Soup
Caught a huge eel (3ft) at Bemm River years ago
Scrubbed it with sand for a few hours (well 1/2hr), made no difference to the slim.
Skinned and gutted it, cooked it up
It was discusting, neither the dogs or cats would touch it either
Catch and release I say
Freshies are different though
Cheers Gra
Good gummy bait I'm told

Re: Eels and Oxtail Soup
I don't care much for the taste of them but I'll sometimes keep a couple of smaller ones to give to an old guy down the street.
Any others get released to fight another day.
I don't know what's the hardest, fighting an eel in the water or fighting it once it's on the bank. I usually have an old jute potato sack with me. If you can hold it through the sack it's a bit easier to handle them.
