Early morning and late night fishing
I've decided to take the tent down to welshpool and spend a few days fishing with a mate, and I really want to have a go fishing at night.
I've never been fishing at night before, or even at sunset, so is there any tips on what changes in terms of chasing fish/different rigs/bait/location and so on?

Sorry I can't help you with the species you are chasing. However, about a year or two ago I started fishing after dark for the first time ever (in freshwater). I love it! I think once you get a taste of it you won't look back. Somebody here should be able to help you with the species you are chasing.
thanks

Most of my fishing it at night on the beaches but I don't think you really change what rigs or baits.
You mite like to add a few glow beads if you like but that's your preference. I usually just use a running sinker rig or a paternoster. Some of the other more experienced guys may have some better advice

Also a good head lamp and some glow sticks for your rods will help to

Re: Early morning and late night fishing
over 90% of my fishing trips are usually at night.
Camping out sounds great! but youll needa prepare yourself with what Matty said. if your spending few days there light is essential for you cause if your fishing at night with no natural light around it can get very dark and hard to see.. so headlamps and spare batteries is def needed and glowsticks for your rods do heap you at night.. or you can use a fishing alarm which is what i use.
Rig dont change much.. i too use the paternoster rig or a running sinker rig.
When its sunsets i rkn thats when the action starts hitting.. well thats for me anyway... so good luck buddy! cant wait to read your report!

Re: Early morning and late night fishing
Well got out on the boat at 4.30am (takes bout 1h 20m so get to welshpool from where i live) so I thought it was a fair effort, there wasnt a touch of wind.....
didnt get a touch until 11.30am
in the end finished up with a 4ft gummy and half a dozen decent flathead so a good day out, even though everything was caught in the last hour of our trip haha.
tried eel as bait for the first time, didnt get a single touch so dont know if thats just bad luck or it was bad bait.
also got pulled up by the fisheries officer for the first time ever, whadaya know, my fishing licence is 2 days out of date (3 year license). luckily i talked my way out of it promising to renew it, close one!

Re: Early morning and late night fishing
As vinhii says, rigs don't change much, but it is important to try a variety eg, running sinker and paternoster.scott__henning wrote:I've decided to take the tent down to welshpool and spend a few days fishing with a mate, and I really want to have a go fishing at night.

Chasing gummies and snapper
Take some wire traces as you may encounter some toothy critters.
It is a good idea to arrive before dark so you see where the gutters and holes are, unless you have previously reconnoitred the area and marked where you want to fish.
Glow sticks and or fish alarms. Beach rod holders, always remember to loosen the drag,
Generally speaking the fish tend to come closer to shore after dark.
