Is there any fishing in Warragul?

Post by Foofoo » Mon May 06, 2013 8:18 pm

Hi everyone,

I am heading out to Warragul next week for placements for the next 2 weeks. I was deciding if I should bring my fishing gear. A quick scan of the area on google maps makes it look like there isn't any thing close by. I can only go after work so it has to be relatively close by for me to get some fishing in before it gets dark. If there are spots to fish, can anyone tell me what species to target for and (since its most likely gonna be fresh water) some tips on catching them? Thanks!

G'day , as Bob mentioned, tarago and bunyip river about 15 mins out from Warragul. Labatouche creek nearby does ok too.
There is also Hazel creek that runs through the gut of warragul, plenty of carp and eels in there ( the odd smallish brown trout too ).
Best area to fish this creek is near the large outdoor netball courts, or behind the showground.
Cheers , Rick.

Gday foofoo i lived in warragul for quite a while if you head north up to noojee its about a 30-40 min drive from warragul. Drive through noojee and you will see a large timber mill on the norhtern side of the latrobe river. park near the bridge next to old fumina road. just lookout for snakes haha
And i dont know if the tarago reservoir is still open to the public but i have got some very nice trout of it, albeit a long time ago failing that head to blue rock dam
cheers Bill

Thanks guys, if I get the time I'll check those places out. Just wondering is it bait fishing or do I need to go buy lures? If so, which bait or lure would be best. Thanks!

The tarago river, in Neerim South presents trout, blackfish at night, and eels.
Whenever we go dirt bike riding around there we take the rods for afterwards :)

Thanks for all the info guys, if I get any spare time I'll probably try out some of these areas. That being said, anyone know of cheap accommodation around the area that will put up 2 people for 2 weeks? :)
