I believe rainbow trout require more oxygen hence the longer recovery and their tendency to sit in the faster water while browns dominate the backwaters.

Yeah sometimes l might swim a rainbow for up to 4 or 5 minutes before they come good,in saying that though at 5 mins they usually end up on the table.
The brown l caught sat in my net in the water for no more than 30 sec and he was right to go,so they must be stronger fish as Adrian said.
