hepburn lagoon

Post by gordo65 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 3:06 pm

hit Hepburn early again too try and snare another "trophy " fish , no luck this time - only a couple - 33cm and 39cm ( throw backs ) new size limit min 45cm which is a great rule . weather was just right - little to no wind , overcast with occasional drizzle and plenty of fly activity - but hardly any rises
headed over to Newlyns after 11:00 and the water was bubbling away with redfin chasing these same flys - orange in colour ? ( would not take any lure ! )

Rather be sitting watching that than my screen.
Nice to hear some news from those two lakes.
Cheers.

Those insects are Mayfly Spinners in Red earlier in the day these would be Nymphs before hatching into Mayfly Duns around 10 -11am usually there and then they change again to the Red Spinners later in the arvo before mating and dying.
It's usually a great time of year to Fly Fish the lake.
