Fishing near Ararat

Post by Kuerschie » Thu Apr 04, 2013 1:04 pm

Hi all, first post.
I'm going over to Ararat in the next month for a week and was wondering if there were any places to go fishing for trout or redfin around this area? Also if anyone has any tips for me than don't hesitate

Green Hill Lake holds big redfin.
Big spinners are the go.
Best colours would be red, yellow, and orange at the moment.
Good luck!

Thank heaps guys. I'm a newbie to freshwater fishing as I'm an avid bream on lures fisho but I'm going to change it up for a while. Are there any brown or rainbow trout in Greenhill lake?

Mate check out vic fish stocking reports, think there are browns at Green Hill lake, it's not far to Bellfield at halls gap either for more reddies and trout. Lake lonsdale fishes ok for reddies if its not too low either...try red celtas or ondex for the reddies and tassie devils for the trout. A bunch of worms also worth a try, good luck
My hobbies are fishing and golf, I guess I just like frustration..

Thanks birdman. I'll definitely check that out as I don't mind a little drive to find some fish, especially trout. I'll get some celtas and others and have a go.

Ok late post,
I went for a quick visit to Greenhill Lake about a fortnight ago whilst travelling through and had about an hours flicking of spinner and rapala minnows for nil result. Had a few follows but the place definitely looks fishy!
Again I'm wondering whether any others have fished this location recently for any reddies or trout? I do wonder whether my technique were at fault for the lack of bites but maybe next time I'll fish two rods, one baited/one lured. any thoughts?
