Winter fishin in northern Victoria
G'day fellas
Been out fishing the last few weekends in the campaspe from axedale to echuca. Throwing hogback spinners that normally catch me plenty of Redfin but have not looked like catching a fish. Anyone been catching anything in this area or the bendigo region? Even as far as kyneton redesdale way? Bloke at the fishing shop told me yesterday it was tough at the minute.

Re: Winter fishin in northern Victoria
Am about an hour away in Shepparton. Things are slow here as well. A lot of water coming down the Goulburn due to rain and releases from Eildon. Before the river rose I tried a couple times baitfishing for one small cod and one small carp. Water would have been too dirty for lures. Local channels (which are off) normally provide some redfin in winter but they have been dead. May try tonight so I will let you know. Welcome to the site as well!!!
thanks

Fished a local channel this arvo for about 20 minutes chasing redfin. Nothing, not even a follow!

Cheers fOr the reply jim. Heaps of flow in the local river too but nothing interested. Is the winter normally such a struggle?

Re: Winter fishin in northern Victoria
I am not that experienced with Murray cod but they tell me the early winter months are the best time to pick up 'monster' cod but maybe not this year. I haven't heard of much lately. Normally I would catch redfin, fewer but larger models than in the summer but it has been dead for me. On saying that I have seen some pics of people who have caught good redfin. Winter time is good time for trout so if you know of any stocked lakes in your area you may want to try them. Just remember recognized trout streams are closed.

Thanks mate.
Went out today in the Elmore area. Caught 2 nice reddies and a couple of carp using worms. Lots of bites as well. Might just be the lures that are goin no good.
Heard around the traps that people have been at hung yellow belly on yabbies aswell.

No floats mate. Just use the sinker at the bottom of my set up with hook about 30cm above so it doesn't sit right on the bottom.

Similar set up but no swivels. Just do a loop knot out the side of the line. Easy to set up.
