Advice - Cairn Curran
Hi all - hoping I could get some advice for Yellowbelly at Cairn Curran in the coming weeks. Should I go deep or shallow, bait or lures, high in lake system or at the wall, is it too early in season etc. I have only been there sight seeing so I am starting new.

Re: Advice - Cairn Curran
I reckon that as cairn curran was down to 11% only five months ago and they have done small stocking since, you might be better off waiting a year and getting back when there has been some growth in the fingerlings. Not many fish survive when it gets that low, apart from Charlie carp. Maybe go downstream in the Loddon river below. Might be better off....

Re: Advice - Cairn Curran
l went to cairn curran about 6 weeks ago and fished from about 8am to 6.30pm and didn't get a bite.
l used worms,sp,blades, h/bodies and cheese and l was in a boat.
Bender might be right with what he says about the water getting down to 11% and there might not be many fish about but in saying that l have read occasional reports about yellowbelly being caught.
When l was there the water was really dirty so l don't know if that makes a difference.
The way l look at it though you have nothing to lose by trying and l reckon l will give it another go soon just to see what happens.

It's recovered enough for fisheries to release 40,000 Murray Cod fingerling's yesterday.

That might mean its short of fish then if they are topping it up that much.Brett wrote:laneends wrote:dont know but level was very low until recent times so dont know how well its recovered.

When there is a drought cairn curran and eppalock are the ones that fall the lowest, hence they are less consistent in the long run

Hopefully there wont be another drought before these mature. It would be good to have these reservoirs at their best potential
