Steavenson river 31/5
Hi all,
Yesterday I headed out with the intensions of fishing waters of the upper Yarra river, a quick check on the system however showed the water was very high and fast, made the executive decision to instead head off to the Marysville/Buxton area to try the old favourite - Steavenson river.
I decided to head to the area in Buxton where the three rivers meet and work my way upstream from there.
The river was flowing quite hard making wadding difficult at times and after an hour or so I'd only had a few follows with one fish spitting the lure, leaving me to contemplate calling it a day.
Luckily the action again warmed up with a sighting of some decent fish in an upcoming pool, two decent casts and two very good sized trout were then landed. Both fish were in beautiful condition and the largest I've ever caught.
I always catch and release wild trout so a quick picture and both released. The old faithful rapala spotted dog (floating) did the damage.
All in all a good day,
Clintos

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Know that feeling mate - lucky you didn't loose any lures while you were in this mindset, could have been the tipping point to get you out of the river before hitting those trout! Good on you for persisting - well rewarded with nice looking fish - congrats on the PB, those are good sizes for those rivers.Clintos wrote: The river was flowing quite hard making wadding difficult at times and after an hour or so I'd only had a few follows with one fish spitting the lure, leaving me to contemplate calling it a day.
