Hi all, spent the long weekend camping on the Murray River with the family just outside Echuca. Took a few handlines and finally got the chance to throw them in on Sunday afternoon. Tried cheese, worms and freshwater shrimp on a combination of running sinker and paternoster rigs. Caught one Murray Cod at 60cm, along with a carp at 55cm. I was using live freshwater shrimp as bait on a paternoster rig. Both great fun on the handline.
First ever cod, so pretty happy with that. Cod was released to fight another day and the carp was ditched up in the scrub. Also first ever carp, so that's two I can tick off the list.
Hope everybody else had a great weekend as well.
Cheers, Eug.

Re: Echuca
Awesome, nothing beats having a fish under the red gums up on the Murray using some freshly caught shrimp, they are an excellent bait, goes to show you don't need any special equipment a hand line works just fine, fished with one for years in the early days

Re: Echuca
Thanks guys. Heading up to the river again this weekend, but further east towards Albury-Wodonga. Hopefully have another good trip (no family this time) and hopefully manage a few pics.
Cheers
