Chinamans Lagoon

Post by kenzie101 » Thu May 02, 2019 7:24 pm

Hi all,

Have heard about Chinamans Lagoon and Cobrawonga. I found them on my Murray River access maps. Can't find much info about these spots. Does anyone know if they are worth having a crack at. Don't mind if it's Carp central, still good fun for a lazy Fisher.

Cheers,
Mark.

It seems Texas may know something, he should reply Mark, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

I don't know about the lagoon but even though the cod are slowing down I'd fish the river even with bait. There are heaps of cod there and plenty of good ones.

I haven't been there since it dried out during the millennium drought.
Prior to that a group of 12 of us took 750 carp out of there in a weekend.
Behind the homestead is a large pump shed (was unused) that you can camp near it & It's relatively deep, because of the pump. Down stream from the pump are numerous sites and wider river.
We used to fish, Labour day weekend, so hot weather
Good luck, I hope to be up there soon.

Below the pump is the "natural" lagoon, it's nice and wide and relatively deep.
It's a back water of the Murray. No problems if you want to take a tinnie.
Above the pump is a man-made drain/creek, so fairly narrow
I don't see why you wouldn't catch a cod there, never tried

Thanks Dave, Will and Graham. Great information, might head up to Yarrawonga next week for a fish.
Will be fishing from the bank, also on the lookout for my metre cod in or below the lake.
Anyone know of any charters up that way I could look at in this quest. For the holy grail.

Mind you ther is something about carping on light gear. 750 in a weekend is huge, hope the bait was corn and not too many scrubbies from the tackle stores A few bucks spent there.

Will keep an eye on water levels in the Murray for the rains up that way before I go.

Cheers,
Mark.

Yeah Mark corn & yabbies
Cobrawonga was owned by Bryan and May to grow beech trees for matches
They had channels for irrigation and they were full of yabbies. Two scoops = 2 buckets
Those were the days.
Wife permitting, I'll be up there after the 11th

Was going to head up tomorrow, but too cold, too wet and too windy. Soft and lazy it seems.
