cod fishing

Post by abzz » Tue Dec 27, 2016 12:58 pm

So yesterday tried my luck again fishing for natives, and after last years failure fair to say its been a better start. Nothing big caught but catching my first cod on surface lure, and also my first ever yella..whos complaining! lol
Even though the cod were very small, i can see why its very exciting targeting them on surface. Could only imagine how the big ones go!

Well done mate on your first!

Now you have made the breakthrough you will find it easier. Fishing is such a confidence thing - once you know that a method works you will back yourself in the future.

Most people that visit this site would not realise that only a few decades ago the sort of fishing we do for natives was not even contemplated. In fact, the Director of Victorian Fisheries in 1979 publicly stated that Australia had no worthwhile freshwater sportsfish, that the only real sportsfish were brown and rainbow trout.

It took people like Gordon Winter, Rod Harrison, Brian Pratt, John Bethune, Vic Mcristal and Native Fish Australia to pioneer modern fishing techniques for natives and promote them. The change over the past 40 years is remarkable.

Your challenge now is to catch a cod (and other natives) on a fly!!

Best Wishes

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
