"Speckled Green Carp"
I had a couple of hours to kill this evening so I took myself off to a small local lake to toss some SP's about for the redfin.
The reddies in this lake are of no great size, 20cm being an average fish with the odd bigger model sometimes showing up.
True to it's form the reddies were quite happy to have a chew on the SP's.
All was going well until another small reddie took the lure. Ten yards out from the bank the small reddie came to a dead stop. Nothing was moving and I was sure that there were no snags there that could stop a retrieved fish so firmly.
After about 15 or 20 seconds my snag began to move. It picked up pace and without deviating from its course was headed off to a small island about 40yds away.
I couldn't turn it let alone stop it. It started to round the island and the inevitable happened. We parted company.
I never saw the "snag". It just moved away at a constant speed. Methinks that someone at some time has put a "Speckled Green Carp" in the lake.

If it took line it's safe to assume it's no reddy. HahaBoonanza wrote:More like a Big Reddie little reddies are the best bait for them

Re: "Speckled Green Carp"
I'd say there's cod in plenty of suburban lakes, they're so cheap to buy as fingerlings. Unless you actually knew they were in there most people would be fishing far too light to have a chance of stopping one so very few would ever be seen

Yes plenty of subutban lakes have all sorts of things in them including cod. I have also had a very large Murray Short Neck turtle take a small redfin and head off to the other side of the lake. Also big eels will take "live bait"

Re: "Speckled Green Carp"
I can only speculate on what it was that took my little reddie, I never saw the fish.
Deep in my heart of hearts I know what I want it to be but until I catch it it's going to remain a mystery. One thing's for sure, I'll be spending a lot more time at this place using some very different tactics and gear.
