I don't think it would be a record, I've seen one about 60 cm and it was well short of the largest recorded blackfish of 12 lb, about 6 pound. I have read of a fish of 80 cm being taken many years ago in tassie. If this fish was caught in Victoria though it may be a record for the state there are a few accounts of 8 to 10 pound fish in years gone by and he estimated it at 2.5 kg - I reckon it would be heavier than that, add another kg say. It would be great to see a pic of it laid out on a brag mat if it exists. You can see why they were called 'yellowbelly' in Gippsland.
This fish weighed 6 1/2 pounds and from the tape measure is about 60 cm long:
Still it is a ripper fish, the biggest taken for many years - and caught on a lure. I've picked up quite a few on lures, even in daylight where you need to fish in heavily shaded areas.
He let it go, so good on him!
Best Wishes

Re: Big Blackie
That is an incredibly fat Blackfish - I have caught them in the Bunyip River system and Mt Emu Creek but nothing like that size or shape.
