Murray cod tips

Hi everyone

I'm new to the site but have been fishing for a little while.
I head up to mulwala every year around January.
I have used cheese mostly and have gotten one cod but I'm looking for some other baits to use and lures, I've used spinning lures but no others. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also is it good fishing in summer not very expierienced with cod.

There's a variety of lures that cod love to munch on, Go big on spinner baits and I recommend the white ones that glow in the dark.
Stump jumpers are the most commonly used lure for cod up there and every bait and tackle store up there will tell you the same.
Surface lures are good at night believe it or not! On a night with a full moon head out off the banks of the lake and throw a surface lure out as the Cod come into the shallower water.

Cod are on the chew all year round, so anytime is good except closed season, they are known lure takers of just about anything, spinnerbait's, hard bodied lures and surface lures, bait also works very well, shrimp, yabbies and worms, if luring don't dwell too much on colours, concentrate on keeping the lure in the strike zone and working the lure through or past structure, some have a lucky colour or colours they prefer, I prefer big lures to hopefully scare the little fish away. like any form of fishing you have to put the time in.

Personally, I find cheese and scrub worms to be ideal baits for cod, I've caught the majority of my cod on those two baits with a few exceptions. Other than that if you are looking to go trawling with lures or simply casting and retrieving I highly recommend stumpjumpers, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits they usually seem to do the trick. Although if you are fishing in dirtier waters I would recommend sticking to bait fishing as lure fishing is often less effective.
