First Murray Cod x 2

Post by bilby » Sun Dec 31, 2017 10:04 pm

Well, this afternoon was a first for me in two ways - catching fish on the last outing of the year, and catching a new species after all these years of thinking about going after one. I literally had a last minute thought that I'd head up the river and finally target Murray Cod today - and after a few hits, incredibly, I landed one! (at 65cm), followed by a 57cm fish a few minutes later. I was cut off on a snag by another fish, as well (it seems 10lb braid doesn't cut it around snags). They are quite a powerful fish - finally a good experience with freshwater fishing. Happy New Year!

Very well done for a first, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Thanks for the comments. I gave it another shot today and much to my surprise, came up with the goods again. This time a 60cm fish and I lost one after my baitrunner took off while I was away from the rod. The ensuing battle took place over (and probably under) timber with the result that the fish spat the hook after a couple of minutes. This sure beats mulloway fishing right now, though!
