Planning for Murchison/Shepparton cod

and I are going to Murchison/Shepparton depends on the water conditions to look for cod on Saturday. Especially on surface. All the way to Wangaratta to look for good water.

Saturday temperature will be 10-19 degrees and cloudy with 15kmh north west wind. 29% moon.
For the experienced cod fishos, would this weather be ideal? Any tips and tricks for this kind of weather?

I heard the cod fishing is slower, but we are super keen to land the first cod on surface!

I believe surface fishing for cod is more successful in low light, eg dawn and dusk.

I thought you'd have more replies by now
I've seen truedogz catch cod (on the surface) in the heat of the day(35°) & at night in a creek.
This trip (I think) cod were caught during the day & early morning.
3 of the group hit the creek on Saturday night for zero.
I don't think the weather has that much influence
Good luck and Hope you get a few.
Cheers Gra

Same here, was hoping to get more info before committing to 12 hrs fishing trip. But oh well, just gotta try.
Thanks, we'd be happy to get one each. I heard the cod fishing is slowing down due to cooler temperature, we'll see.

So many variables - you can have days where all the highest catch probabilities line up perfectly and the day is crap, and days where everything seems to be wrong and it goes off. The only consistent is you gotta have a crack with something in the water to be in with a chance lol.

Yesterday weather was better than expected. Water was clear enough, good looking spot, water level was dropping, current was good too.

I caught one yellowbelly around 25cm, Chris dropped one yellowbelly right under his feet that looked like between 30-40cm. That's it. Very quiet.

Saw some kayakers and boaters, said the same thing, quiet day.

2.5 hrs drive there, 6.5 hrs of fishing, lost 5 lures between us three. Lot of casts. We all tried different lures, stumpjumper, spinnerbait, surface lures, swimbaits, etc.
We're starting to loose hope to catch cods on lures, especially on surface. The 2.5 hrs drive back was exhausting.

Now the weather getting colder, everyone said the cod fishing is going to slow down even more. Not sure if we will ever get that good cod fishing day :( seems like everytime we get time to do cod fishing, it's always not in our favour.

We kinda knew it would be hard and we certainly learnt. But still, it's not like we live 10 mins away and can go back anytime. 12 hrs trip is quite an effort.

Also, saw a dead neck turtle floating with a fishing line on it's mouth. Looks like it ate a bait, got hooked and the sinker got snagged. The line felt like a 15lb mono, and the fisherman broke the line.

Us three coincidentally used kingfisher mantis surface lure in the last 10 mins, surprised how the bottom half sits very low and has great action.

Nice write up - good day out despite being slow. Will be great water to hit when it gets hot again.

I bloody told you it'll be no good (not). You could have stayed home and watched TV.
Better to give it a go, with mates, than watch Essendon get done.
Great report, the fish will come (so I'm told).
Keep it up
Cheers Gra
