NATIVE FISH REPORT CARD

Post by Paulanderson » Mon Oct 14, 2019 2:59 pm

The following link has some interesting information:

https://www.nativefishreportcard.org.au/portal.php

While gathering fish data has its problems and numbers/sizes can vary a lot year to year it would seem that Blackfish are on the decline in the Gellibrand River and despite a lot of effort Macquarie Perch in the Ovens River are also not looking all that good.

There is an interesting catch recorded in 2018 in the Yarra river. Apparently a Barramundi was caught :nfs:

Yarra barra??

A mate saw one dying on surface in the yarra around the casino, not in a healthy condition. Probably someone released it in there.

Also remember years ago one of the Daiwa e-newsletter had an article (and photo) of someone caught a barra and something like within 15 mins from city.

I thought they were EP but EP has forked tail, barra has a round tail.

There's a religious festival (Buddhist I think) where they release an animal into the wild, quite often they'll get a barra from the tanks in those Asian restaurants and let it go in the nearest body of water without really thinking it through. Luckily it's too cold here from some of the other critters you sometimes see in those tanks to survive...
