Hi Team,
Haven't been able to fish as often as I'd like for the past few weeks due to work commitments so couldn't resist the temptation on Sunday (bit of sun, low swell and high tide near sunset).. Thought I'd report back incase others are considering..
Found some clean water and set up after 4ish past Lorne.. Was disappointed to find that the usual hunting grounds had changed quite a bit. Guessing due to the latest batch of weather we had. Some of the rock platforms are now completely covered and sand patches have been replaced with boulders :/..
There were three of us. All fished 1 rod each (12' Surf Gear), and different variations of bait (pillies, chicken, squid and poppers). Decided it was safer this way as it proved to be challenging day out. It just felt like the rogue waves just weren't as few and far between as the name suggests.
Got onto a few early (good sizes too), felt like it was going to be a good day out. However, the weather turned, a considerable drop in temperature around sunset and larger swells meant that the water got stirred and bites reduced. Did manage a couple more though before we called it a night. Surprisingly, they were still on the chew after dark. It just became a little too dangerous and cold so decided to pull the pin. Took home what's pictured below and dropped some in ankle deep water trying to get to higher ground from the rock platform (it made for some fun viewing though trying to catch it back with hands). Nothing to write home about but a great enjoyable session nonetheless.
