Apollo Bay

Post by munky7584 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 8:35 am

Hi guys, Just after some help if its not to much trouble.

A friend and I are heading up to Apollo Bay for a week next week and I'm just after some local know how.
I've surf fished the area a bit and know there is a good gutter down near the Km's to Lorne sign & place with the white fence.
I'm interested if anybody has any info on:

.Gummy shark off the surf.
.Fishing in the boat harbour(into or off the rocks)
.Bream fishing Aire river.

I understand fresh bait for gummy is best, We'd be using salmon fillets and try for squid in boat harbour.
I know of one spot on the Aire river, but have never fish down close to the mouth and was interested to know if you can fish for flathead and or other species besides bream.

Any help or info would be much appreciated, as we are taking the ladies with us and would like to get them onto some fish and they prefer river fishing.
Happy wife, Happy life. lol

Cheers in advance guys.

You can get trout upstream of the GOR bridge in the Aire river.

I have fished in the boat harbour for toadies and small salmon but sometimes the locals seem to do alright. The local tackle shop in the middle of the shopping strip is quite useful.

I would probably suggest that you go to Pt Fairy if you can, lots of options there and mixtures of salmon, trevally mullet and bream can be caught most of the day, even the odd Mulloway and a few tailor, heaps of amenities and things to do if the fishing craps out, and thats just the river option.

South beach they tell me is good fishing also, but never fished it myself.

Anyway see how you go.
