Great Ocean Road Salmon

Post by azkay » Mon Jan 05, 2015 1:15 pm

Fished land based up the Great Ocean Road on New Years Day/Night.

Found clean water hitting some rocks (@ low tide) & sand next to it (@ high tide).

Used 12' Surf, paternoster, pillies as bait. There was plenty of Salmon around, decent sizes too. Reinforced how important gutters are when surf fishing, dropping any bait in the gutter resulted in bites. Photo below to give indication of sizes.

Brothers did really well on lures too for those interested. I believe they were using Blue/Silver Gillies 40-60g..

I really enjoy it out that way, beautiful part of the world. Alot of fun with salmon all the way up the coast and some great bycatch around too.. I've been there 4 times in the last fortnight, hehe :)

Fingers crossed TrevKing, my recommendation is to stay clear of the pier. Rocks, Sand (provided your equipped on the day) & clean deep water wins hands down for me every time (i had friends on the pier at the exact time i was at the beach over on the sand).. Having said that, there were fisho's talking about good squid of the pier last weekend.

Shoot me a pm if you need any more info on whats been happening that way lately..
