No mate, no good, you might snag the odd squid. Port Arlington or st.leonards would be better

I've never fished in Geelong itself but Portarlington is one of my favourite landbased locations and probably one of the few that is comfortable for fishing in a southerly wind. I've got flathead, whiting, salmon, mullet, LJs and pinkies there. Either cast out from the breakwall towards the artificial reef or drift a bait down beside the wooden pylons while using burley. Banana prawn has consistently done the damage for me there.

I usually use leftover bait, either put in the food processor and made into a paste or roughly chopped into chunks. If you make a paste you can mix it with tuna oil and breadcrumbs/oat bran/chook pellets, it should disperse nicely when you throw a chunk into the water but if you plan on using it in a cage it will wash away too fast to get a decent trail going. In saying that heaps of people use just the pellets and oil and do well, I just like to have the scent of the bait I'm using in the trail.
