Got 10 Goodins

Hit the water at 0300 yesterday at St Leonards after Ting,moved about 6 times till i hit a good spot near the Ship Wreck -Clarence
Managed to get 10 goodins -
Only 2 other Greek boats near me
Only started to bite 1 hr before first light then went off when light hit water
Used fresh Squid for bait -Fish didn't take Mussels
Water temp was 21C the fish were warm when you grabbed them
Its been many months since 1 caught a few Ting

Good work, I've found it tough on the ting this year, opposite to the forecast of being a bumper year !

I don't know why anyone would have forecast a bumper year this year (or next for that matter).
Fisheries recruitment surveys in 2015 and 2016 were below average. 2017 was a very good recruitment year but we will need to wait until 2020 for them to grow up.
I haven't heard what this year's survey has shown.

I read the article and I think it was misleading.
They said" SCIENTISTS predict the large number of small King George whiting entering Port Phillip and Western Port bays will be “catchable” by spring 2018."
No way that fish entering the bay in winter/spring will be legal size 15 months later. This is the good recruitment that I expect will take another couple of years to be worth catching. You might be able to hook them now but you would be throwing them back.
I am wondering whether the good size of whiting caught this summer is related to the smaller numbers available; could less competition mean that they are better fed?
