Great Ocean Road Fishing. HELP
Hi,
Heading down to cumberland river for a couple days and looking to get on some fish. Im aware the beach possess whiting and wondering whats the best rig for getting onto them and whether lures vs bait. Continuing looking to fish off artillery rocks for some salmon, is Paternoster rig best, what else can be caught off those rocks, is it possible to catch salmon off metal slugs on rocks or would i get snagged. Continuing keen on heading down to erskine river for some fish aswell as fairhaven for some surf fishing. What species can i expect to get and whats the best way to target them and is there any other hot spots i should try while around the area.
Thanks In Advance,

Re: Great Ocean Road Fishing. HELP
I've caught salmons and couta off artillery rocks. 9ft rod and 15-20 gram galco twisty. Was in autumn i think though. Was a while ago.
You need to be able to cast far, especially if you bait fishing.
And reel in really quick.

Re: Great Ocean Road Fishing. HELP
Youve got a much better chance of getting whiting and pinkies off artillery rocks than cumberland beach, paternoster with squid for bait will get you all fish off this ledge. Good Luck

Fish low tide and cast far past the weed, then retrieve fast and dont stop. Single hook helps.Leronzia wrote:How do u avoid getting snaggedSeb85 wrote:I've caught salmons and couta off artillery rocks. 9ft rod and 15-20 gram galco twisty. Was in autumn i think though. Was a while ago.

Can't go wrong spinning highspeed metals off any of the ledges there at dawn or dusk. Be wary of the swell.
