I had some friends stay over the weekend I have fished with them for over 30 years they normally fish westernport. They fish out of rhyll . We launched a little late Sat morning around nine nice to have some one back the boat in for once. It was a little choppy but not unbearable we headed over towards Wilson spit . We passed quite a few boats on the spoil grounds they have been getting a few snapper there early in the morning and in the evenings. We were after flathead for a feed and later squid.
I got to my favorite flathead spot got the baits out then realised I had left the berley at home I had taken it out of the boat when I had the new floor covering done. I had plenty of pilchards so I cut them up and got a trail going.
The flathead were a little slow and as we were contemplating a move my rod took off a gummy right on 45cm not one to chance it I put it back, another smaller gummy and several banjos later we upped anchor and headed over to Clifton springs for a crack at some squid.
My mates wife had never caught a squid I couldn't believe it she has caught a metre barra 10kg snapper but never caught a squid.we approached Clifton springs as the wind was dropping and there were loads of kayaks working the area. I rigged the rods and gave a demonstration and off we drifted. It wasn't long before I hooked a cracker it was looking good. Suddenly my mates wife screamed she was on I kept talking to her as she reeled it in reminding her jigs have no barbs keep pressure on at all time.
We ended up with a dozen before it was time to head back to clean the catch wash the boat then get ready to go out for dinner.

Saw about 6 kayaks out there 2 close to me 4 more towards geelong they were slightly more inshore than me i was in about 6 to 5 mt depth. Do you always wear hi viz orange

Yeah, helps to be a bit more visible on the water, especially when it gets a bit choppy and the kayak is hard to spot between the waves.
