Clifton Springs Kayak - 20 January 24

Post by Andrews » Sun Jan 21, 2024 3:52 pm

Hey all,

Focus was to test out a new Palms Pinwheel 69UL+ rod, some new plastics and a modification to the assist hook.

Punched out at 8.00am due to increasing wind, and met Sebb as he was heading back in with a mixed bag.

I was flicking a 1/12 1o jig head paired with a KL 1 assist hook with an Aliexpress sandworm imitation of Gulp's worm (10.0CM).
The Ali one is shorter (8.3CM) and narrower in size but is made from a TPR material similar to what you'd find in a Zman with the stretch. They were $5 for 15.

Check out the pictures to see how it compares (Left & Centre are Ali, right Gulp) and how I've rigged them.

We found plenty of kgw this session, though all just undersize and swinging by a secret honey hole I pulled out this 39CM Pinkie on the plastic. Gave a great fight and came home for dinner.

I can say that I was genuinely impressed by the plastics, the stretch factor was great, the held the procure oil based scent well and the durability to have only lost a tail after ~20 fish was awesome. The whole day I used the single plastic with success on pinkies, kgw and bay trout.

I've orded a few in a almost motor oil colour, the coffee / green ones shown above and a bright pink like a nuclear chicken. Think maybe the pinkies would like that.
