Does anglers killing carp make any difference?
Given carp have a zillion eggs it seems they are quite capable of breeding to whatever their local environment can sustain. Any impact any line anglers catch and kill will make negligible difference. "pruning" them only leaves more food for the remainder to grow big and fat and produce more eggs, thus offsetting any population losses due to capture. Anyone know of carp population being substantially reduced as a result of fishing pressure?
Is it simply about perception, and the only way it can be affected is a change in the environment that is detrimental to carp eg viruses or a natural predator?
If you did catch and release a carp you are doing no more harm than if you never caught it in the first place. ie you are having nil environmental impact, which is probably why the fines for doing so is rarely, if ever, enforced. Anyone got any stats on such fines?

This topic is like setting the cat amongst the pigeons or letting the fox into the hen house.laneends wrote:Given carp have a zillion eggs it seems they are quite capable of breeding to whatever their local environment can sustain. Keith while it may make little difference just like northern sea stars in the bay you pull one out it doesn't go back - pretty simple thats the ruleslaneends wrote:If you did catch and release a carp you are doing no more harm than if you never caught it in the first place. ie you are having nil environmental impact, which is probably why the fines for doing so is rarely, if ever, enforced. you could use the same theory that taking an under size fish will make little difference to fish stock ether but we all put under size fish back again simple it's the rules
