BEEG Trout

Post by Truedogz » Sun Nov 19, 2017 11:34 am

This story of interest:

http://www.westernadvocate.com.au/story ... oban/?cs=7

The Australian record is 29 pound from Tassie. The most recent fish of this size I can recall came from Lake Pedder in the 1980s where 12 pounds was considered a 'typical' fish and 18 pounds a good one.

It just shows what is lurking out there.

What a massive fish, we have fished Khancoban many times over the years, best I can recall at a comp about 8 years ago was 65 cms.
Bit confused, did the fish go back, even tho it had "been on the line for a long time"??

To find a fish
You do the miles.
Catch the fish
and earn the smiles.

Lord, allow me to catch a fish, so large that even I,when speaking of it afterwards.........May have no need to lie !!!

The way I read it it was kept.

"There was no way I could have released him after he was on the hook for that long, but there was no chance of that happening given the size of him."

Absolutely awesome! The biggest Vic trout I know of for decades. Of all lakes, who would have thought a beast of this proportion would come from there. Eildon or the crater lakes, but not Khancoban. Very special indeed.

For a truly wild Brown Trout to get that size in "normal" conditions is really something else and then to be taken on a home tied fly on 6 lb line is something else again and speaks volumes for the patience and experience of the angler. Many thanks for posting this Will.
