Can anyone give me some advice on rods for targeting trout in creeks and streams? I’m looking at a rod and reel combo atm it’s a 3-5 kilo rod. Should I go lighter or heavier? If anyone has advice on any good combos that would be much appreciated. Thanks and tight lines

Do you have a price range or budget

2-4kg 6’6 with a 2000 sized reel would be my suggestion for that kind of fishing.

I would recommend a 1-3 kilo light action rod and 1000 size spinning reel specifically for creeks and small streams and a rod length of no more than 6' I find far more handy with streamside vegetation etc. For a general purpose river rod for trout, a 2-4kg rod paired with a 2500 reel is plenty. A Shimano Raider bundled with a mid range Shimano reel can often be had for well under $200.

Small streams usually means small lures so lighter is better. Look for a spin rod with a very light casting weight and on the shorter side of 7'. I prefer the 1000 or 1500 size reels for trout on this type of rod but a 2500 will do in a pinch. Straight mono 6lb or some very light braid if you want to get technical (I do but sometimes I wonder why I bother when considering price and effort vs fish caught) I usually don't like bundles, look for a rod with Fuji componemts that meets the criteria then go hunting for a reel to balance the rod. For the finesse of the setup your talking about I think higher quality (read price) will actually make a difference up to a point; different story if you're talking about drowning worms.

I just picked this up on AMAZON USA.. cost me AU$77-80 delivered to Australia, ($159-00 at MO-Tackle).. they're on special at the moment.. I already have three 6'6'' Presso's & four 6' Presso's, a great light weight trout rod that's for sure.. this is what they're selling for in the US, $51.19 + $5.59 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Australia.. Also picked up a small Daiwa Revros reel air rotor from A Korean company who makes them for Daiwa.which hold 100 mtrs of 4 lb mono, AU$78-00 free postage, perfect little trout reel for rivers & streams.. Beautifully balanced set up..

The Presso is a good rod, I just wish more manufacturers would offer a full butt rather than those silly split grips.
