For the reel in that budget I would be looking at the stradic ci4 in 2500 from shimano or spend a bit more and pick up a daiwa like a caldia lt, luvias or gekkabijin air. For braid I would be looking at J braid grand in 6lb or majorcraft dangan x8 pe 0.6 will need a fair bit of backing on the stradic but the 1000 size ci4 is too light for most rods imo

great pic,s the daiwa is a nice light rod so i would match it up to a shimano ci4 reel , nice and light and you should pick them up for $200
picked up the ci4+ plus today, very happy with it. Nice feeling reel.

Looking at the photo of the main dots in a line reminded me instantly of the old Spotted Dog lure, amazing likeness, once considered an essential in any trout lure kit.

If you've got the ci4 (red highlights on it) the reel itself weighs 160g and results in most combos feeling tip heavy (balance point far in front of hand), I have played around with the 1000 of the previous model (actually slightly heavier) on a lot of different rods and found that the weight of the 2500 was better suited to everything except for a super short creek rod (around 5' from memory). Also the gen blacks (the series the td blacks replaced) tended to be a bit on the heavy side for their rating and assuming this is the case for the Td's the 1000 won't sit that well on it. If you are set on the 1000 size get a stradic fk (195g) otherwise the stradic ci4 2500 (190g) is the pick.

My current trout outfit for small streams is a majorcraft skyroad t702m and a twinpower c2000s. Rod weight is 88g and the reel is 195g spooled up, I find that this outfit is really nicely balanced, I have tried this rod with lighter reels and despite it how light it is I found that it became tip heavy.

I don't have any personal experience with the J braid grand yet but a few friends have given it a run and found it a big improvement over the original j braid. Most of the feedback was to do with less wind knots etc. I had the original 8 carrier j braid in 6lb on the above outfit for 18 months and had no issues at all, replaced it with the dangan as that was what was available to me when I needed a respool.

How does the reel feel on the rod? I have no experience with the pinster 2 rod so I looked up the specs....2 - 5 kg rating. As a starting point, this tells me it would more likely match with a 2500 size reel. Other things come into play as well, higher priced reels are lighter and may not balance up well with cheaper rods etc. These aspects have already been covered in this thread.

If you are happy with the way it feels then keep it. It will do the job in the small streams. As already mentioned, if you stick with the 1000, you lose some versatility....that you may not need anyway.
Cheers
Jim
