Hi
Just wondering if lorne pier has seen good fishing recently. Supposed to be going tomorrow. Will be targeting salmon primarily but any reports will do.
Cheers

Yes and no, i was there a few months ago when 3 seals were hiding/playing under the pier towards the end.nickfish wrote:if the seal comes leave. the seal scares evreything fish away from their
I bagged out on silver whiting there, just need to have to swim the fish away from the seals. Yes, i did lose one or 2 to the seals. However i was also able to set one of the whiting as a livie and i nearly got spooled (using 80 lb braid 300 m) on something BIG. Wasn't the smartest idea to use a 12 foot rod in hindsight, as it was hard to remove it from the rod holder. I lost my hook because i was only using 40 lb leader... :doh1:
If any of you are wondering if it was one of the seal, it wasn't, as the same 3 seals were underneath the pier the whole time...
Till today, i still don't know what it could have been.

Yeah the seals are buggers..ive lost good sambos to them heaps. If your lucky you can land them but generally the seal wins.

I saw some massive rays under the pier when I was there, so that could be what it was.seephil wrote:

As for recent reports, I was there last week and the fishing was okay.
On the one day that the seal wasn't there, I hooked some good salmon on metals - my advice (if you're fishing lures) would be to move around and try to locate the fish. However, when the seal/seals were there the salmon were a lot harder to find.
Don't let the seals stop you fishing though, I still caught squid and saw others catch leatherjacket straight down from the pier.
Good luck

Thanks for informing me. I will be fishing lures as always but what metals do you use. SP have given me the most success but I'd be glad of your suggestions.

SPs are great, but metals will give you the advantage of longer casts and better chance of finding the fish if they're a bit further away from the pier. I was just using Gillies Baitfish in the 15-30g range
If you're using light gear I'd stick with plastics as metals might be a bit heavy for the rod.
