Artillery Rocks

Post by Josho » Mon Oct 16, 2017 5:31 pm

Never done rock rishing down the coast before, thinking about
going this weekend to artillery rocks, or wherever round Lorne.
Can anyone give tips on rigs for targetting Snapper/Pinkies, Flathead, Salmon.... Paternoster rigs? Sinker weights? Hook a brother up! Cheers

Lorne pier is busy but good if the swell is up. And protected in a southwesterly. Only go off the end of the pier or to the left. Snags on right.
Not sure about rock platforms. Someone else will know.

I used to fish artillery rocks a hell of a lot in my 20's and get a lot of good fish, sambos, whiting, trevally barracouta to name some.
The problem I have found since moving back here from northern nsw is that there are shite loads of European wasps making it very difficult to baitfish. It is a great platform to fish from but these pests almost make it lure fishing only which is a big shame
Good luck if you have a go

Did you end up fishing at Artillery Rocks?

What did you catch?

I wouldn't mind trying Artillery Rocks once I know the exact location.

Thanks for the reply and I will look at the other thread.

What rig do you have to catch salmon.

What size hook and sinker is best in this location.

Paternoster, Size 3 or 4 triangle Singer. 3/0 Hooks with Pilchard even Chicken..

Edit: Best times i find are Sunrise/Sunset around a high tide. I'd be really careful though if your not experienced, just like any other type of rock fishing..
