Barwon heads 21 Apr 2013

Post by Foofoo » Sun Apr 21, 2013 5:22 pm

Went fishing today from 9am to 1pm today. Must say it was one of the best days i've ever had fishing. There were sooo many fish out there today. In the 4 hours, caught around 30+ mullet (kept 12), 2 trevally at 36cm and 36.5cm, 2 Australian salmon at 34cm and 32cm (only kept 1 cuz I keep hearing people say they are not nice to eat) and countless juvenile aussie salmon. Well worth the drive after friday's disappointment hehe :D

I was at the boat ramp barwon heads side. I normally walk into the mangroves and fish off there, but ppl at the fishing platform next to the boat ramp were doing very well too.

Heya Cuda, some mullet were caught on blue bait, but the bigger models were taken on pilchard cubes. Btw, just had the aussie salmon for dinner. Whole fish coated with sambal chilli, wrapped in aluminium foil and baked, tasted wonderful! I wonder why most people don't like eating it. Kinda regret not keeping the other one lols.

Thanks foofoo. Planning a trip to Barwon this week, so was wondering about mullet bait as I want to catch some for bait.
I have pretty bad experience tastin Salmon LOL, but today I caught a few in the surf and just filleted them for bait, but when i got home wife wanted to try and cook again a couple of small ones along with a nice flathead i also caught. So I skinned some fillets of smaller ones, crumbed and deep fried them, and wife said it was heaps better than last time she ate it (just pan fried whole). I think if you remove the brownish bits, they might not be too bad...
Anyone talking about any Mulloway caught at Barwon?

Good stuff mate, well done on the trevs as they have been pretty quiet in that area for the past few weeks.

Hmmm so apparently, I had a close look at fish I caught versus ones I googled up. The fish right at the bottom, actually doesn't look like any pictures of aussie salmon. :o what did i catch?! Hopefully it wasn't something undersized :S Opps
