Anybody fished Cumberland area before?

Post by Ploh » Mon Feb 10, 2014 12:56 pm

Hey guys, probably heading down to Cumberland River for a few days for camping. Definitely want to get lots of fishing done during that time. I probably won't want to fish Lorne pier if it's busy but if it holds squid, I might give it a shot.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what can be caught and what to use at Cumberland?
Is it worth bringing my bait pump to pump some bass yabbies and worms?

I did a search on the forums but not too much came up.
Cheers guys

Cumberland river is more fresh water, in the late 90's my mate caught a nice Brown trout right at the mouth of the river almost near the surf beach.

Oh so it isn't an estuary system with the usual bream and flathead?
I'm not much of a freshwater fisher :/

How's the saltwater go?

Sorry to have to bump but wanted to know if anyone had any experience fishing Erskine River mouth as well?
Any info on bait pumping down at Lorne too would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Cumberland fished the rock platform to the right of the river. we caught some salmon and heaps of wrasse. with the water warming up you are likely to get some whiting in the sand patches between the weed.

Thanks poodoo. What type of bait goes well off the rocks?
