Moggs creek, Lorne pier

Post by Ritch » Sat Mar 01, 2014 8:21 pm

Went out to Moggs Creek down the Great ocean road today; caught 5 salmon over 3 hours in the water
Bait was half pilchards soaked in bait mate oil. Biggest was 30cm, threw them all back. Did manage to catch a good size crab in the leg.

I went to Lorne pier afterwards for a look, 20 odd people there, only one bloke catching small Tommys half way up the pier.

It was great to see fisheries officers there as well; checking licenses
I was only looking, so I grabbed a seat at the start of the pier and had a quiet giggle at all the people walking away with rods and their fines in their hands.

Great post! Ive never seen fisheries on Lorne pier in 20+ years fishing there on and off! Good to see them showing their presence and even better that they were fining offenders!!

Just wondering if the "bait mate oil" that you used is the one in a clear bottle with the silver top and black spray nozzle or another type?
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..

No it's not a spray bottle, just a coloured lid on a clear white plastic bottle
Cheers

I've seen a few locals(Lorne) getting a few squid off the pier while reading FB. Been hard work apparently cos of the seal.

Apparently there is a family of seals that live there now.....why not, free salmon, free couta and free squid to steal off the fishermen who happen to hook up.....
