Hey guys, a mate and I are planning to make an extended weekend trip to Nelson, he has never fished it and I have only fished it twice in the past.
Can anyone give us some advice of what time of year we should make the venture, what to look for down there and is collecting live bait/worms possible down there?

I have fished pritchards before with some degree of success using freshwater yabbies

Go the local knowledge! Check out the bait and tackle store at Nelson, as always they are happy to help. The mulloway move up and down the river so up to date info makes a difference, brim are plentiful, always find using the local crabs gets larger models on the line, have one on a rod while you use the other rod for plastics or smaller bait. Estuary perch are also found but further towards the mouth usually. Have always caught fish there but would try to make the trip before the full winter hits... Good luck
My hobbies are fishing and golf, I guess I just like frustration..
