Gunners report 14/03/16

Post by AnthonyC » Mon Mar 14, 2016 1:29 pm

Rolled up at 6.30am for first light and high tide, 3 of us with 10 foot rods, one on a halco roosta surface popper, another on a heavy gold twisty and last on a knight. Gutter at the base of the stairs already full with a large contingent of old bait soakers in overalls. 1st cast one of us snapped from a poorly attempted FG knot, which set the tone of the session. We spread out and systematically cast and retrieved every gutter to the rocks and back, not even a hookup, but we all have our unlucky days haha. Bit unlucky that low tide came earlier than predicted at 9am and a nasty headwind stuffed around with casting distance. Packed it up at 10am. On the way back saw the baities had about 20 small mullet (around 25cm each) between the 7 of the them so there were some fish to be had. Will try again next time ive got a spare weekend and when the salmon season picks up a bit, most likely easter.

Thanks for the report. Keep your eyes peeled because they are bound to rock up sooner or later and when they do it's gonna be madness. I'll head down next time the conditions allow and check it out

Last year was one of the worst I have experienced locally. 2-3 years ago would often get my bag of 20.

Ditto.
Spoke to Oatsy a while ago, (who is a superb salmon fisho), he reckoned worst salmon season in 9-10 years.
