11/12 At the Gun..

Post by CarlG » Tue Dec 11, 2012 9:20 pm

Had a quick look at the wind tonight and thought I`d pop around the corner and see if it was fishable..got there to a decent easterly blow, but had a try anyway..had a few casts, wandered my way up the beach, and in one of the rips was a big dark patch, chucked in, and sure enough, wham bam, thank you Mr Salmon..1kg fish up the beach, hooked up a few more times, but lost them in a) Aerial acrobatic efforts, very entertaining on the eye, and b) In the wash on the beach, which is just the way it goes sometimes..fish moved on, and so did I. As I walked further up the beach, the wind died away to nothing, eventually ended up near the far end, when I got stuck into them properly..nice fat 1.5 came up, quickly followed by a 1.2..The sun was making it`s way down at this point, so I started the long trudge back along. Had a few more casts on the way back, picking up another decent fish which was thrown back to swim...
A nice treat to be out tonight, as I didn`t think the weather would flatten down until the weekend, but there you go..will post a few picks tomorrow, as I`m knackered now, and cant be stuffed...Still can`t believe how many fish are down there...just astonishing, more than through the winter, and generally bigger..

Unreal you seem to have them on tap. Are you a salmon whisperer or something :lolf:

Mate, it ain`t hard at the minute...they are simply there in big numbers. If you equip yourself right and go and look for them, you`ll catch a few. I`m simply making the best of it while it lasts...surely they can`t be there for much longer before they head off to spawn can they..?

Raco...doesn`t have the same ring to it really does it..?..lol...
Jon...good grief....lol...if you wanna few, myself and Raco are heading there Friday late arvo...might sneak down saturday morning as well, weather dependent...

Even if you didn't land a fish, the sunset looked magnificent.
