That could be alright, better to get at least 60m+ imo
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad

The salmon will be whereever they want. On a calmer day 35 could work. Check out some surfcasting tutorials for ideas on how to get some more distance.

I paced my cast with my 9foot catana and a 40g slug to just over 110m with a tail wind. In no wind it's more like 80. You're probably not going to be able to cast a baited line that far though.

Like i said, sometimes they're in close, sometimes further out, sometimes in the shallows and sometimes in the deep. I've had a hit just as my lure landed and i've had another one 3m from my feet in shin deep water.

If you put in some hours you will get fish on this beach.

With a 12 foot surf rod and a good reel and braid I can cast a baited paternoster with 4 ounce sinker around 60-80 metres maybe more, just look up different techniques and practise them!
