Fish of the beach this afternoon

Post by Alwaysloud » Fri Dec 27, 2013 9:38 pm

Just got back from Gunnamatta, with nothing stayed there from 5pm till 8pm with no luck apart from my bite being nibbled away slowly.

I was fishing on the left hand side from the timber steps about 20metres, positioned away from the incoming waves on the shorebreak.

Was using Pipis, Pillies, and Squid.

Just a bad day for fishing there or is it normally exciting and fun.

It can be a bit hit and miss but you really need to find a decent gutter

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad

The beach does produce a lot of fish but I guess they weren't there this evening. Tomorrow morning with the wind at your back inc high tide might be worth a crack

Yeah the window was a South Southerly, waves were wild.

What size sinker do you normally recommend to use at Guns ?

Best conditions i've found here are wind from the north, NE or E, very low swell (under .8 or so) and either high or low tide around about the time of sunset.

Try walked to the south east a few hundred metres and try the second or third gutter along instead of the one right on the stairs.

More than once i've had to walk the length of the beach twice with spinners before i've finally found a fish, then mayhem breaks out for a bit, then they wander off and you have to go find them again.

You'll get fish there no matter what the time of day. Last catch there was a 49cm sambo bang 11am of one of the hottest days of the year. Dawn or Dusk have been hits more often for me though.

Oh wow, I'll have to try again at Pre-Dawn and Dawn.

How far out do you need to cast out ? from the beach shorebreak ? I think I was getting around 30-35m.
