Sweet...hope it absolutely bleaches down.... get yerself down man, you know it makes sense...
Hey Carl,
That video link you posted yesterday with the Kahawai/Salmon, would you recommend what that bloke did and remove the triple/treble hook and replace with a single one on the lure?
Thanks.
Yeah Carl uses a single hook on his lures, Fish-Cador uses trebles on the front and on the back and others use a treble on the back and a stinger on the front. Plenty to experiment with.

They fly a fair distance though, as your leader snaps off. (When you get someone else to help you tie a leader to your braid) :icon_lolz:
Let me recommend Geoff Wilson's book of knots and rigs....and some bloody practice..lol...
.
Bloody good advice there Carl only he would need someone to translate it for him. Oh and the next time you spin with him show him the merit of having your leader knot OUTSIDE the last guide...and he wonders why his lure flies and doesn't come back :doh1:
that's not nice fellas. What did I ever do to you guys.. :(
plus I've always had the leader INSIDE the last guide. You just tie crap knots. And carl. Thanks but im happy to use you tube....... :tease:
To fish or not to fish...NOT TO FISH ??Yea...like that's even an option !

I've actually picked up a few salmon recently on the NSW south coast with my bright yellow braid tied directly onto my slug. Only because I forgot to chuck spare leader in and broke a knot. I'm convinced they'll eat anything shiny that's in front of them.

Yea your right DougieK they will eat anything shinny you put in front of them leader or not but I would be worried about the knot going through the guides all the time, eventually it will give way imo

Yeah, tried throwing a few slugs around too with no interest at all. It's funny considering I'm happy so sit there for hours with with a bait rod, but I've done a lot of spinning and I'm not completely sold on it yet. Too me, it's like fly fishing but not as graceful or nor as technical. Yes it works, but I also know that I catch more fish with bait. I guess I also like the serenity of bait fishing. Each to their own.

Heading down there again tomorrow morning if the forecast holds.

Don't reel in that far? My lure never really comes within about a metre of my rod tip. Using a modified pendulum sort of cast I find I need about a metre of length minimum to get the whipping motion to cast properly. One 7 twist uni knot onto a snapswivel onto my lure. I'm back to using leader in Victoria, but the same principle applies. 50 odd cm of leader, no reason for the knot to ever go through the top guide.

Found almost 100% of my success spinning the surf has been in swell less than 1m. I think today was up around 1.5m. The theory which I tend to agree with, suggests that in heavier weather the fish are more likely to sit on the bottom, making it easy for them to take a bait but harder to reach them with a metal slug.

Interesting DougieK. I fish whenever the opportunity arises and its usually irrespective of tide or weather (unless its really bad) Next time! I'll check on the swell and if its small, will leave the surf rod at home.

Today was a good day. Got three good fish and dropped another. Somewhat unsurprisingly, all fish took the popper.

Always found the poppers to get more hits then bait in the past never fished without them when soaking baits in the surf
