Launched corinella 7am.. back in at 1pm
Drifted the corals = 0
Obseravation point = too windy
Elizabeth island = 4 gummys got wind against tide so last spot near the barge hole for the last two fish

Huge range of bait..but banana prawns for woolworths done the trick on all 6

Nothing eles at all... not even a flatty...

Wind picked up.. my passanger complained all day about the cold...but was great to catch up again after 18mths
I've never done any good south of Elizabeth this time of year even though they'd have to move through the area. 6 pups though is better than zero at all

I got to ask....

Do you guys use a whole banana prawn? Do you peel them? How do you rig them up?

Thanks in advance

Peel and set aside the shell and head. Cut the tail into 2 chunks and thread a hook through a chunk so the hook runs length-wise through the center of the tail. Prawns are soft enough that the point of the hook doesn't need to be exposed. You can pin a strip of squid to the point as well if you want.

Crush up the heads and shells and use as burley, quite often I'll find the shells inside a gummy I'm cleaning.

Fish love prawn, the only downside is that being soft it can get destroyed by pickers and tiny flathead quite quickly.

I used half a prawn...but they are large banana prawns..
Peeled the first one..
Not the second one..
And both worked..

I didn't bother with berley this time and didn't get any by catches..so im thinking ill keep heads and tails for other species berly

Its a big learning curve for me to target fish..
Easy to go fishing and catch whatever....
But to target one specific type of fish is a real art..IMO

Had two lines out..
1 was running eze rig , and that took all 6
Other was paternoster rig...zero
Changed sinker sizes few times

Interesting i wouldn't think a big size gummy would go for half a prawn tail.....i usually use a big fillet of salmon which i find works well.

It's not always big baits equals big fish. I have caught a 4 kg red on a small piece of white bait
