Stockyard Point - 1 Jan 2017

Post by Tarsh » Mon Jan 02, 2017 4:19 pm

Went down to stockyard point after many years in an attempt to catch a gummy to start of 2017 with a bang.

Fished two hours to the low tide and half hour afterwards using pilchard (salted) and cured eel.

Not a bite....long walk home.

cheers,

Bad luck Lightningx if I was to fish that area I would try to fish low light times and would go a bait fish within 24 HR prior if possible. Trevally are fun to catch but also personally my go to bait.

In that area banana prawn outfishes all other baits for gummies. You are on their feeding ground, and they are feeding on crabs, large prawns are the nearest thing

I did use green banana prawns recently at tenby point but a mate who used oily pilchards did well whereas the prawns didn't succeed. Will try again but probably not at stockyard, I'm not convinced that location is as good as its reputation.

Gummies are everywhere in westernport, perhaps Stockyard gets it's reputation simply by the fact a lot of people fish there, therefore a good number of gummies are caught there..?
