A small piece of squid.

I'd say I was sending a 4oz sinker about 60 to 80m, from the edge of the water, the wall was 10m further back than that.
I wouldn't have been landing in any more than 50cm deep.

Finished up work early(god I love my boss), so got there around 3:45pm, to an empty foreshore. Picked my spot and got setup, rods in the water by 4.
I wasn't expecting a lot, then at about 4:15, my rod starts bouncing around, I look up and see a small gummy jumping clean out of the 40cm deep water I had cast into. He put up a fair fight for his size, but once I realised he was legal length it was goodnight.

Pretty happy with my outing, seeing as it's been around 5yrs since I caught a landbased gummy, hopefully it's the start of a bumper season for a change.

Long time coming, going to make it taste even better.

Lang Lang Gummy Report. 9/05/2017.

With a high tide at about 1.00 pm today and just light winds forecast I headed off to Lang Lang today to try for a gummy or two.

I got there about 11.00 am. and fished through till about 3.30 pm. There were just two other blokes there.

None of us had a fish at all on the rising tide but about half an hour into the ebb the gummys came on the chew. Myself and one of the other blokes had a gummy each, both about 70cm and the third bloke had one a similar size plus a second gummy just over a metre.

It was nice to catch gummys fishing gentlemans hours and still be home in time for tea!

Two of the fish fell to squid, one to pilchard and the other to a banana prawn.

Back to Lang Lang today.

No wind at all, completely glassed out. A sea mist hung around all day.

Five gummys' for the session but all very small. No where near being keepers.

Thanks TLT.

Sometimes when you get those glassed out conditions you get to see a few things that normally would go unnoticed.

The two photos I took were taken about 5.00pm, when the tide was about two hours into the ebb.

Immediately adjacent to the water/ beach line, within the first foot or two of water, schools of tiny bait fish were active, often breaking the water.
A little further out, twenty metres or so, fish were gently breaking the water and occasionally swirling on the surface, much like trout do in a lake. Most likely they were mullet.

Normally, with wave action or wind chop, these small things would never be seen. This gives rise to speculation that when the conditions are right, it may be time to put away the long rods and do some light line float fishing. It may also be worthwhile tossing out some surface lures in case bigger things are looking at a feed of mullet!
